Diego Hidalgo, of La Bandera, is a respected figure in Costa Rica's coffee industry. His family's farm, in a high-altitude mountain area between Santa Maria and Copey de Dota, has ideal conditions for unique, high-quality coffee. Previously considered too cold for coffee, Diego invested his U.S. earnings into the family business. During the micro mill revolution, he returned to Costa Rica, took over the farm, and established their own wet mill to produce specialty coffee.

Over time, Diego began planting new and rare coffee varieties higher up on the family farm. He excelled at processing methods and developed various cutting-edge techniques. The expertise at La Bandera has earned numerous accolades in competitions and auctions, establishing it as a truly special producer and farm with a long-standing commitment to excellence.

After precise collection, these coffee cherries are floated and cleaned at the La Bandera Wet Mill. The drying process is extensive, taking a month to complete on raised beds, with frequent movement of the coffee. There’s a lot of love that goes into this coffee and we can tell! The cup is tasting like a berry jam that fully immerses your pallet with a burst of cranberry goodness!

Special Special denotes a small lot of extra special coffees either by rarity, variety, or processing.

    Available in 12oz only.
