The Get Down Coffee Co. opened its first retail coffee bar in November of 2021, located in the HWMR expansion project at 1500 North 44th Avenue, MPLS. In addition to The Get Down’s retail cafe, the coffee company also roasts and distributes coffee to numerous wholesale partners including retailers, coffee shops, restaurants, caterers, and businesses across the United States.

The origin story begins in 2015 with a phone call from Houston to Dan. Houston’s personal experience with specialty coffee was that it was neither welcoming nor diverse. With the goal in mind to change that, he asked Dan to meet over and about coffee. Houston shared his vision of bringing specialty coffee to North Minneapolis. The two of them have been busy together over these past years exploring, imagining, listening, sharing, learning, and building.

Houston White is a visionary leader and entrepreneur. As the owner and leader of The Get Down Coffee Co., he leads in ways that honor his core belief in the power of human connection and his goal of creating cultural collision.

For Dogwood’s part, our best metaphor is that The Get Down is our sibling. What’s ours is theirs: our knowledge, experience, people, resources, relationships, facility, and equipment is fully available to them. Furthermore, we value their knowledge, perspective, leadership and voice in Dogwood, knowing that it further strengthens and enriches us.
